The Anti-oxidant Activity and Anti-inflammatory Effect of Rubus buergeri Miguel Leaf Extract

Abstract
Rubus buergeri Miquel contain various kinds of phytochemical substances and are known to have a wide range of physiological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anticancer effects. However, the underlying mechanisms of its inhibitory effects on inflammation in the RAW 264.7 macrophage cell have not yet been examined. In this study, we investigated the anti-oxidant activity and anti-inflammatory of Rubus buergeri Miquel leaf extract (RBM) on LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cell. We found that pretreatment with RBM inhibited nitric Oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and pro-inflammatory cytokines. In addition, RBM significantly inhibited inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) on LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cell. Based on these results, we suggest that the RBM has the potential for use as an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agents.
